What can I say, I’m a sucker. M asks for chocolate chip cookies, and violá, some form of chocolate chip cookies appears from our kitchen. He wanted chocolate chip cookies, we compromised and I made bars instead. Cookies can be a tedious process when you’re not in the mood for them. So, enter cookie bars! Some ingenious baker must have been tired of the cookie process when they created cookie bars! Trust me, these are easy to throw together and even better to eat! They are Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies made into bars. So really, I just used the original recipe and spread it into a cake pan. In the original recipe, their pan cookie version said to bake on a jelly roll sheet (bigger than a cake pan) and I just can’t fathom something looking like a bar but being so thin. I suppose they are meant to be “cookies” at that point. So, these are bars. 😉
These bars are tender and each bite filled with chocolate chips. They taste amazing warm and would be heaven with some vanilla ice cream. YUM. So, have them for a morning snack with your coffee or as dessert! 🙂 Have fun and enjoy!
What you need:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease a 9×13″ pan.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread into prepared pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown, test with a toothpick for doneness. Cool in pan on wire rack.
